In his dusty workshop the cello maker seeks the voice inside the wood as he carefully carves the timber. He patiently plies his tools sharing magical stories of his ancient craft with his musician friend. Ebony from Africa, maple from Romania and pine from the hills of Italy, each piece of wood carries the song of its home. His friend shares music from each land as they both search for the song of the trees
The Song of the Trees is a new and original performance piece combining live music and storytelling directed by Marc MacLochlainn who devised the piece with the performers, celebrated cellist Neil Martin and the legendary Little John Nee. Original score composed by Neil Martin.
This is a co-production between Branar and Music for Galway commissioned for Cellissimo. Supported by Arts Council of Ireland, Galway County Council and the AIB Community Fund.
